There are some conclusions you can only make, some insights you may only gain, after a few decades of life in the world.

Of course one cannot view and much enjoy a movie without (forgetting) all the camera and crew which create the movie.

Similar to social conditions in Nazi Germany, or also Soviet Russia, those I know of Putin’s Russia who have not gone into external exile, tend to being in internal.

Here in the USA the “inner exile” of a Steppenwolf or Steppenshewolf, is not from social oppression or political danger, but from indifference, disinterest.

Such is a quite different reality – but a reality for all that.

The familial and social group life and mind in which I and my friends were, as it is sometimes said, “brought up” provided us with no substantive content or context to understand history, it’s ideas, events, literature,… or much well of anything else outside the upper middle-class life in which we were raised.

Adapting Thoreau on the times vs the eternities… One might say the news*, the times, the eternities.

*and while it is obvious, when you know it, “news” is plural of new, though probably less than one in 100 know this.

Take away aspects of shared social identity and many would have little left distinct to be.

“Politics” is an external manifestation of deeper factors and realities in the individual and social psyche of men and women of mankind.
